Community Day held in memory of school governor at OPA Alne

Dennis Myers had been a governor for twenty years

On Friday 15th July, 蚂蚁福利导航 Primary Academy Alne held a special community day to remember and celebrate the life of their governor and school disco DJ, Dennis Myers.

Dennis had been a governor for twenty years, taking on the role when the school was Alne Primary School, before it joined 蚂蚁福利导航 Grange Academies Trust in 2021. He held the position of Vice Chair when he passed away last year.

The day started with a service at St Mary鈥檚 Church with readings by children, staff and parents.

Dominic Colenso, parent, ex-governor and friend of Dennis, delivered a reading which stated:

鈥淭oday is a day of celebration. A day of celebration for Dennis and for the lives of the many other dear people we have lost over the last two years.

鈥淎 day of celebration for the amazing community we are part of. When we look around the world, we have so much to be grateful for right under our noses.

鈥淎nd a day of celebration for the contributions of the secret superheroes that support us and make things happen, often without us even being aware.鈥

Year 6 hosted a chatty cafe which encourages members of the community to come together to socialise and they collected donations for Easingwold Food Bank. Children enjoyed a picnic lunch on the field.

In the afternoon parents and children undertook a charity run in aid of Children鈥檚 Heart Surgery Fund raising 拢154. The day was rounded off with a disco at school in honour of Dennis, who had been the school disco DJ since 1986!

Outside of giving his time to the school, Dennis also served the wider community as the Chairman of the Alne Street Fayre.

Miss Dawson, Principal said

鈥淚t was a wonderful and fitting way to celebrate Dennis鈥檚 life. He was a pillar of our local community and we feel his loss deeply鈥
