Cultures & Traditions

We promote tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling children to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures.

Careers Education

We want our children to have high aspirations for adult life and embed career learning into the curriculum, developing strong links with businesses and professionals. One of the key annual challenges within the ÂìÒϸ£Àûµ¼º½ Primary Diploma is to ‘have high aspirations and skills for adult life’ and we use this as a structured approach to primary careers education.

Extended Learning

We provide opportunities for children to consolidate, enrich and extend their learning. Children can access on-line learning schemes, take advantage of our libraries, attend after school or in school sessions. It is not always possible to find a quiet area at home to complete work and therefore extended learning is not simply viewed as an out of school activity.

Subject Disciplines

We want our students to learn the ‘²µ°ù²¹³¾³¾²¹°ù’ of each subject respecting the traditions and importance of subject disciplines. We provide a clear narrative of what we teach, why we teach it and how it is taught and assessed so that we know if it is understood.

Literacy & Numeracy

We focus the enhancement of literacy and numeracy. All children require this core knowledge to enable their access and success across both our curriculum and their future. The ability to read is an essential for accessing the full curriculum. Our structured approach to the teaching of phonics ensures that children are equipped with this skill and develop the fluency required to read for both learning and enjoyment.

Interdisciplinary

We encourage clear links between the different aspects of our children’s learning, including opportunities for extended activities which draw different strands of learning together integrating knowledge, skills and understanding across different areas of the curriculum. This should however, never be at the expense of depth within a subject and therefore our approach is to use both discrete and interdisciplinary subject teaching as appropriate to the context being taught.

Significance

We encourage children to consider what is significant, what should be commemorated, remembered and why. Supporting students to recognise judgements and appreciate values by exploring events such as the remembrance or celebrating the power of imagination, creativity, discovery and invention.
